Jakarta<\/strong> - Indonesian Mountaineering Federation (FMI)<\/strong> officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Papua Mountaineering Association (PMA)<\/strong> related to the governance of the Carstensz Pyramid climb in the Lorentz National Park area, Papua, Saturday (7\/2\/2026).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MoU signing was held at Journey Coffee, Tebet, South Jakarta<\/strong>, It is part of a strategic collaboration to support regional development, the structuring of natural diversity (Nataraga), and the strengthening of Indonesia's sustainable mountaineering sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The MoU was signed by Chairman of PB FMI Major General Mar (Ret) Buyung Lalana, SE and Chairman of PMA Maximus Tipagau, SE<\/strong>, This is an important milestone in the management of climbing Puncak Jaya or Carstensz Pyramid, one of the world's Seven Summits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his statement, Buyung Lalana emphasized the importance of mountaineering standardization, professional governance, and the application of zero accident and zero waste principles in every mountaineering activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


\u201cThis cooperation is not only about climbing, but ensuring that Indonesia's natural potential provides economic benefits for local communities in a sustainable manner,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The focus of the FMI and PMA partnership includes the synchronization of professional mountaineering activities, economic empowerment of communities around the mountains, and enhancing the role of mountains as part of the Nataraga ecosystem: the synergy of nature and people's welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Meanwhile, Maximus Tipagau called the signing of this MoU a strategic step to elevate the mountains of Papua, especially Carstensz Pyramid, to the international level with dignified governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


This collaboration is also expected to strengthen coordination with relevant ministries, such as the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Villages, Ministry of Cooperatives, Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as involving the TNI-Polri in supporting climbing safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Secretary General of PB FMI dr. Muhammad Iqbal El Mubarak, Sp.B added, this cooperation includes monitoring the health of climbers, safety assurance, standardization of national and international certified climbing equipment, modernization of emergency response systems, and provision of supporting facilities on climbing routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


With the establishment of this MoU, FMI and PMA are optimistic that the ascent of Carstensz Pyramid Papua can be managed safely, professionally and sustainably, while strengthening Indonesia's position in the world mountaineering scene.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
