On August 14, 2013<\/strong>, just before the 68th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, the Red and White flag was raised at the summit of Carstensz Pyramid (4,884 meters above sea level<\/strong>) \u2014 the highest peak in Indonesia and one of the Seven Summits of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What made this event even more extraordinary was that the flag-raising ceremony was led directly by the then Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Tito Karnavian,<\/strong> accompanied by police personnel, local communities, and climbers who hiked the extreme trail from Tembagapura on foot for over six hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mimika Police Chief at the time, Police Commissioner Rontini<\/strong>, emphasized that the Carstensz Pyramid area \u2014 located within the Lorentz National Park<\/strong>, a UNESCO World Heritage Site \u2014 must be protected from the growing threat of litter left by climbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
